The Horse & Dog Show is on Sunday 13th September 2015 and is a proper traditional country event.
The horse and pony classes kick off at 9.30am offering lots of ridden and in-hand classes for horses and ponies covering everything from fun classes for children and ponies to serious working hunters jumping around the course. The “Best Thelwell” pony and “Cheekiest Pony” are classes not to be missed!
At 12pm the dog classes come bounding into view with everything imaginable from best puppy to fancy dress. Even if you don’t have your dog staying with you, it’s still a fun day out with refreshments and food available all day. The image of seeing a small child being dragged out of the ring by a tiny Pomeranian is still a very popular one!
A list of all the classes is available here
The show is at The Ashcombe Village Club. The Village Club raises over £10,000 for local charities every year and events like this show enable it to raise these amazing amounts from such a small community. The Ashcombe Horse and Dog Show is now in it’s fourth year of revival since it disappeared some 30 years before. It is excellent proof that a traditional gymkhana-type show is still very popular and has opened up the fun to a whole new generation of people.
