Haytor Rocks on Dartmoor

Ashcombe is within half an hour of Dartmoor. An area of all-year-round outstanding natural beauty. Dartmoor is one of 15 National Parks and has some of the most stunning views and features to explore. The River Dart and River Teign rise on Dartmoor and are beautiful rivers to follow over the traditional stone bridges and river-side paths.

In only 30 minutes drive from your Ashcombe Cottage you can be hiking up to the top of Haytor on Dartmoor, eating a great lunch at the Rock Inn, or browsing a shop at Widecombe-in-the-Moor.

Dartmoor is protected countryside, home to Dartmoor ponies and fine local ales. The famous Widecombe Fair is held on the second Tuesday in September every year since 1850. The moor is beautiful at any time of year and holds adventure for all who visit there.  The wildlife and landscapes are unique, adventure sports and activities are excellent and if you are lucky enough to be able to fish for a salmon, well done!

The winters can be harsh on the moor, so we recommend checking with us before you plan any winter excursions, there is often snow on the tops of the moor in winter, but the milder Devon climate does mean that heavy snowfalls are less likely.
