Experience a half-term treat for lovers of steam trains on the South Devon Railway (SDR) with its ‘Kids for a Quid’ week.
From Saturday October 20th to Friday 26th, children (aged three to 15) will be able travel on the trains between Buckfastleigh and Totnes and return, for just £1, as long as they come with a grown-up too! Under three’s travel free.

Kingsbridge Farmer’s Market is worth a visit on 20th October to find local fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and crab. Savour freshly baked bread and pastries still warm from the oven. Fresh meat served by the farmers from their own contented animals.
Luscious handmade cakes, a wide range of homemade preserves and sauces, cheeses, locally grown flowers, plants and herbs, pate’s, pies, pasties and honey from Dartmoor. Free range eggs and local ale. Plus many local craft stalls – perfect for a gift to take home or for treating yourself. Well worth a visit to Kingsbridge Quay between 9am – 1pm on the first and third Saturday of the month.
Celebrate Halloween this October half-term at Exeter’s Underground Passages. Between 20–28 October there will be special ‘Witches & Wizards Tours’ where children are invited to explore under the city’s streets on special guided tours and discover ingredients for magic spells. Using the ingredients found, the young adventurers are challenged to concoct their own magic spell and enter it into a competition with the opportunity to win one of many fantastic prizes. Powderham Castle’s Deer Rut Safaris will return on 15th, 16th and 18th October.
