The 2016 Village Olympics are an annual (yes, we know) event where Ashcombe Village fights it out with two other nearby villages for the honour of being the top team. Silly rural themes and races are the order of the day and it makes for an entertaining day out with lots of food and drink available. Watching a team pulling several tonnes of tractor across a field for glory is quite a sight.
The 2016 Village Olympics will be held at the Ashcombe Village Club’s field on Sunday 28th August 2016. Only a few minutes walk from the cottages.
This year will see a show-down between the villages of Ashcombe, Holcombe and Kenn with villagers and visitors fighting it out for the medals, with children’s and pensioner’s races too. Always great fun for all those taking part and watching. Cottage visitors are very welcome to come along and compete!
The Olympics will kick off at around 1pm and the event will continue into the evening with drinks at the Ashcombe Village Club which raises over £12,000 for charity each year. The club is run by the villagers as a not-for-profit club.
As usual our local Member of Parliament Anne-Marie Morris will launch the games along with our new Parish Rector.
