Crealy Park
Open all year (weekends in winter) with roller-coasters and activities. Will keep everyone amused for hours – for days! Please ask us if we have discount vouchers available for your visit.
Crealy Park is located near to Exeter so an easy 20 minute drive along the M5 from Ashcombe Cottages.
Splashdown at Quaywest
Operates from the second May bank holiday to 6th September. 8 fantastic water-flumes including the very scary Devil’s Drop, chill-out pool, toddler-splash and submarine. Short wetsuits are a good idea for the warm-ish water.
Located in Paignton 30 minutes from Ashcombe Cottages off the A380 dual carriageway.
Pennywell Farm
A family-run petting farm with lots of other activities for children and adults. Enjoy their BBQ and countryside views. Entry gives 4 free rides, hundreds of friendly animals, indoor and outdoor play areas. There’s a different hands-on activity every half an hour. One of our favourites is the piglet races!
Located near Buckfastleigh under 30 minutes from Ashcombe Cottages just off the A38 dual carriageway.
Powderham Castle
The next-door estate, home to the Earls of Devon for over six centuries. Set in a beautiful deer park beside the Exe Estuary. There’s lots of family-friendly events throughout the summer months including fares, concerts and shows. We regularly feature what’s on in our blog pages.

The National Marine Aquarium
The largest Aquarium in the UK, featuring the most species of sharks and rays. The aquarium walkabout begins with the local Plymouth Sound rock pool travelling all the way to the Great Barrier Reef.
Located in Plymouth, 50 minutes from Ashcombe Cottages down the A38 dual carriageway.
Woodlands
A family theme park providing variety all day for all ages. 16 rides including 3 water-coasters. There’s indoor play-centres, outdoor adventure courses, a zoo, ‘Big Fun Farm’, Falconry Centre and Wildlife Sanctuary. Buy discounted tickets online
Located near Dartmouth, 50 minutes from Ashcombe Country Cottages.
Bicton Gardens
A landscaped park combining 18th century tranquility with modern amenities. Open from 10am – 5pm every day. Provides all-year-round enjoyment with a Woodland Railway train ride, nature trail, maze, mini golf, indoor and outdoor children’s play areas, ice-free skating, restaurant and a shop.

Killerton House
An 18th Century National Trust house and botanical garden set in a 6,400 acre estate of dog-friendly walks, shopping, dining and lots to do in the gardens.

Babbacombe Model Village and Gardens
A miniature world depicting English life and heritage. The village is set in 4 acres of award-winning gardens. Special events throughout the year include illuminations and a Winter Wonderland.

Paignton Zoo
A leading zoo with thousands of amazing animals and plants. See lions, elephants, tigers and crocodiles. Paignton has a long history of work with conservation projects. Paignton Zoo is part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust.

Kents Cavern
A labyrinth of prehistoric caves near Torquay. Currently featuring a Ghost Tour every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening. Set in the dimly lit caves characters appear from the dark to make you jump! The tour takes one hour, walking the entire underground cave system. Not recommended for children under 8.

The Dartmouth Steam Railway
The heritage steam railway on the Great Western branch line from Paignton to Kingswear. From Kingswear transfer to the Dartmouth Passenger Ferry to Dartmouth. The railway, connecting boat and bus services are collectively The Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company.

Canonteign Falls
England’s highest waterfall at 220ft. Well worth a visit to enjoy the winding woodland walk up to the spectacular view at the top. There is also Dartmoor’s Becky Falls – voted Devon’s Top Beauty Spot (open in summer only).
Canonteign is in the Teign Valley, about 20 minutes drive from Ashcombe Holiday Cottages.
