South Devon Regattas are one of the best things about a summer time holiday cottage in South Devon. Guests staying at Ashcombe from June to September are perfectly situated to visit the The Torbay Air Show and Dartmouth Regatta amongst other great events along the beautiful South Devon coastline.
The Red Arrows and Battle of Britain flight come to the Torbay Air show along with the mighty Typhoon Fighter. Other local regattas have a huge variety of maritime and air events as well as carnivals and beach parties.
The Torbay Air Show is on 2 & 3 June 2018 at Paignton Green. The Red Arrows and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight feature, as well as displays by the Typhoon-Eurofighter, combat helicopters, fireworks, wing-walkers, parachute displays, sailing races and naval demonstrations. The event is free to attend.
The Dawlish & Teignmouth Air Show will not be run in 2018 but have big plans for a two day show in 2019. This is the nearest event and puts on an amazing show with the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Flight plus hundreds of other participants jetting into the action. A few of the inhabitants of Ashcombe have had a go at Wing Walking… usually only once though!
Dawlish Carnival Week is from 11th to 17th August. With seven days of family fun, music and entertainment including races, It’s a Knockout, raft, duck and pram races and much more, there is something for all members of the family. The Carnival parade takes place on Friday 17th August starting at 7pm.
The Dawlish Carnival is celebrating it’s 50th consecutive year and has introduced some new events like the “The Vooght Family Trophy” for Best Fancy Dress in the Raft Race”.
Torbay Royal Regatta is a week long event of separate regattas from 25th to 27th August 2018 combining Babbacombe, Brixham, Paignton and Royal Torbay Regattas into one huge sailing event covering many classes of dinghis and yachts. The RNLI fancy dress pursuit race is a highlight
The Royal Dartmouth Regatta on 30th August to 1 September 2018, is great fun featuring Pub & Club Rowing, Sailing and a massive fireworks display.
The Shaldon Regatta from 19-27th August is designed for family participation, and is bursting with 130 fun events to watch and participate in. There are rowing and motor boat races, sailing races, children’s sandcastle competitions, rounders and beach races. Enter the five-a-side football contest and the rubber duck race. The event finishes with beach cricket, sailing and swimming events leading to the finale: a Pillow Fight for over 16’s.
