The Cider Barn is a beautifully finished holiday cottage for up to 16 people created in 2008.

Passing the original cider apple orchard, a steep drive leads to commanding views over the scenic Ashcombe Valley between the rolling hills to the just visible South Devon coast.  With excellent privacy, the house is popular with groups and extended families who want to holiday together in style.

History

Ashcombe Cider was made at the barn until the 1930’s.  The 20,000 gallons made there each year make our production of 2,000 litres seem rather feeble!

Inside the RIBA Award Winning Cider Barn

The house sleeps up to 16 people in 8 rooms, 6 with their own en-suite bathrooms. The accommodation is on the ground and first floors.  There is a large dining room, a spacious double lounge with a wood burning stove and well equipped modern kitchen and utility / boot room.

The kitchen is designed to cater for big groups with a large American-style fridge freezer, two ovens and hobs. The huge custom-made oak dining room table can easily seat 16 people.

Ashcombe’s broadband means there is 30mb/s WiFi throughout the property.

Lovely Outside Space

The Cider Barn has a private fenced garden with a heated 5 by 2.50m, 1.20m deep outdoor plunge pool (from 1 April to 1 November) as well as access to the main indoor swimming pool at Woodhouse Farm all year round. Directly outside the house there is a paved area with a large gas-fired barbecue along with a charcoal custom-made BBQ if you prefer to cook ‘old school’.

Parking and EV Charging

There is a large private parking area with two type 2 7.3kw EV charging points. Charging is through the Project EV app.  To save time before arrival, download and set up the Project EV app from The Apple App Store or Google Play. All you need to do is scan the QR code on the charger and plug in your car.

Local Cider?

Ashcombe Estate Orchards Cider production from the orchard below the house restarted in 2012 and is going from strength to strength winning awards and many fans along the way. You won’t buy a more local cider than this.

A quick walk about the Cider Barn

Entry through the front door reveals the spacious double reception room with wood-burning stove, large flat-screen smart TV, Marshall Bluetooth sound dock, and leather sofas, leading to the spacious dining- room. From the dining room the rear entrance lobby is at one end and the kitchen with Italian-tiled floor at the other. Leading from the reception room is one double bedroom with en-suite shower room / W.C., and a twin-bedded room with an adjacent bathroom / W.C. Accessed from the sitting room is a master double bedroom with an ensuite shower room /W.C.

Going up the stairs from the lounge to the first floor there are two double bedrooms, each with en-suite shower room / W.C. Three twin bedrooms, each with en-suite shower room / W.C.

This holiday was excellent, & made all the better by staying in this fantastic property. This was the first time I had been to Devon and this was an excellent base for seeing some of Devon’s best locations.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday in this stunning location.

We stayed at the Cider Barn the weekend of 16th March and wow….what a fantastic time we had. The house was absoloutely stunning and so clean! All of the rooms were beautifullly set out and it was a real advantage all of them being en-suite. The house was spacious but also warm and cosy with spectacular views! The huge dining table is magnificent and the lounge area very comfortable! The kitchen was very well equipped and meant we could easily cook a large meal for 13 of us. The owners have literally thought of everything from two toasters, two kettles, two dishwashers etc, to having lots of games available and tea and coffee when we got there. We had such a great weekend and location is great, close to Exeter, the beach and we had a lovely lunch at the Smugglers Inn which is about 15 mins away. It’s really easy to find the house, the sat nav takes you to the bottom of the long steep drive, and then you basically just keep going all the way to the top. Also a massive thank you to Ralph who went above and beyond to rescue our friend when the taxi couldn’t make it out to the house to get her because of the heavy snow! He very kindly rescued her with his 4 x 4 and managed to safely get her to the train station. An absolute superstar!
Could not rate this place highly enough and hopefully looking forward to going back one day!

Stayed here last week – the lounge, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms were lovely, however the bathrooms and showers really need some attention.
We had a couple of problems with power but Ralph was responsive. Really appreciated the heated pool – fantastic for two 5 year olds. Location was quiet and peaceful – didn’t particularly enjoy the Devon lanes though!!
Unfortunately no hair driers were in the house – should be mentioned in the information.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. Beds were very comfy, house was beautiful, spacious and clean. House was well equipped with cooking utensils and cutlery. Loved the pool and rolling hill scenery. Lovely to be welcomed by the pheasants. Only wish we could of stayed longer! Only one small suggestion is to look at the shower heads, a relative said they may need replacing. Thank you again!

We rented the Cider Barn for a family holiday after trawling the Internet for suitable premises for 16 people. We found the premises homely, comfortable and well equipped. Plenty of room for 9 adults and 7 children under 10. A private swimming pool was an added bonus. Great holiday in a lovely are. Well recommended
