Originally producing up to 20,000 gallons of cider a year up until the 1930’s. The Cider Barn was converted from a derelict state in late 2008 becoming a very popular and beautifully finished holiday property.

An idyllic Devon holiday house to stay in; access is via a long winding uphill drive passing the original cider apple orchard. The house and garden have a commanding view over the scenic Ashcombe Valley all the way to the South Devon coast which is just visible between the hills. The house benefits from total privacy and is much in demand from groups and extended families who want to holiday together in great surroundings.

The Cider Barn sleeps up to 16 people in 8 rooms, 6 with their own en-suite bathrooms. The accommodation is split between ground and first floors which, together with a large dining room, a spacious double lounge with a wood burner, well equipped modern kitchen and utility / boot room make the Cider Barn the perfect place to stay in summer or winter. Guests have exclusive use of The Cider Barn’s heated outdoor plunge pool (from 1 April to 1 November) as well as access to the main indoor swimming pool at Woodhouse Farm all year round.

The Cider Barn has ample private parking allowing guests to come and go as they please or just stay and enjoy a relaxing time with the view and silence.

The kitchen is designed to cater for big groups with a large fridge freezer, two electric ovens and hobs. The custom-made oak dining room table can easily seat 16 people. There is a gas-fired Webber barbecue for cooking up a gourmet outdoor feast on the patio.

Ashcombe’s new superfast broadband means there is now 30mb/s WiFi throughout the property.

Ashcombe Estate Orchards Cider production from the orchard below the house restarted in 2012 and is going from strength to strength winning awards and fans along the way.

This holiday was excellent, & made all the better by staying in this fantastic property. This was the first time I had been to Devon and this was an excellent base for seeing some of Devon’s best locations.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday in this stunning location.

We stayed at the Cider Barn the weekend of 16th March and wow….what a fantastic time we had. The house was absoloutely stunning and so clean! All of the rooms were beautifullly set out and it was a real advantage all of them being en-suite. The house was spacious but also warm and cosy with spectacular views! The huge dining table is magnificent and the lounge area very comfortable! The kitchen was very well equipped and meant we could easily cook a large meal for 13 of us. The owners have literally thought of everything from two toasters, two kettles, two dishwashers etc, to having lots of games available and tea and coffee when we got there. We had such a great weekend and location is great, close to Exeter, the beach and we had a lovely lunch at the Smugglers Inn which is about 15 mins away. It’s really easy to find the house, the sat nav takes you to the bottom of the long steep drive, and then you basically just keep going all the way to the top. Also a massive thank you to Ralph who went above and beyond to rescue our friend when the taxi couldn’t make it out to the house to get her because of the heavy snow! He very kindly rescued her with his 4 x 4 and managed to safely get her to the train station. An absolute superstar!
Could not rate this place highly enough and hopefully looking forward to going back one day!

Stayed here last week – the lounge, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms were lovely, however the bathrooms and showers really need some attention.
We had a couple of problems with power but Ralph was responsive. Really appreciated the heated pool – fantastic for two 5 year olds. Location was quiet and peaceful – didn’t particularly enjoy the Devon lanes though!!
Unfortunately no hair driers were in the house – should be mentioned in the information.
